A New Beginning
Growth through Provision
After
moving
from
Springs
to
a
plot
in
Sundra,
Kevin
and
Louise
needed
LP
Gad
for
their
own
stove
and
geyser.
Before
long,
Kevin
started
helping
neighbours
who
also
needed gas.
At
first,
it
was
only
a
few
cylinders.
He
would
load
them
into
the
vehicle,
drive
to
the
depot,
have
them
filled
and
return
them
to
the
customers.
Word
spread,
and
the
small
group
of neighbours quickly grew.
Soon
the
boot
wasn’t
enough,
then
the
back
seat,
and
eventually
there
was
no
space
left
in
the
front
seat.
It
was
clear - something needed to change.
In
March
2022,
Farmers
Gas
Supplies
opened
its
doors.
We
started
by
painting
the
shop
and
preparing
the
premises,
and
the
community
was
curious
to
see
what
we
would
be
selling.
From
the
very
first
day,
customers
brough
in
their
cylinders.
Kevin
would
leave
early
in
the
morning,
travel
to
the
depot,
have
the
cylinders
filled
and
return
so
customers
could
collect them later that day.
Only
weeks
after
opening,
South
Africa
entered
the
COVID-
19
lockdown.
As
an
essential
service,
we
were
able
to
continue
operation
and
serving
our
customers
during
this
challenging time.
After
several
months,
we
were
able
to
invest
in
our
manual
gas pump, and later an electric pump.
Six
month
after
opening,
we
took
a
major
step
forward
with
the
purchase
of
our
first
Hyundai
H100.
Despite
the
business
being
so
new,
we
were
approved
for
finance
-
a
significant
moment
in
our
journey
and
one
we
regard
as
a
true blessing.
From
those
early
days,
Farmers
Gas
Supplies
has
continued
to
grow.
We
have
now
purchase
our
own
premises
and
have
expanded
our
offering
to
include
industrial
gases,
the
AfriQ
Lube
Oil
range
and
many
other
products to better serve our customers.
